I painted Canyon Shadows on a hot summer morning in Palo Duro Canyon, finding a spot where I could tuck myself into a little shade. The morning light hit the canyon walls while the trees below stayed cool and dark, and I loved the warm patches of light spilling across the dry riverbed. This is one of those paintings that takes me right back to the morning I painted it.
